Running the K's for Kawasaki Disease Foundation
Story
I am pounding the pavement in aid of Kawasaki Disease. What is Kawasaki Disease? It is an inflammation of the blood vessels. A rare disease that affects mainly young children. The cause is currently not known, but research is being done to try and find out. It is probably a severe response to an infection, although we do not yet know which infection. It results in inflammation affecting many different blood vessels all over the body.
The inflammation caused by Kawasaki disease can affect a child's heart. Statistics show that children with Kawasaki disease have died.
My world was turned upside down and inside out when our precious daughter Grace was diagosed with Kawasaki disease just before her second birthday. Thank God, with early diagnosis and treatment our beautiful daughter is a happy and healthy seven year old.
Not all families with a child diagnosed with Kawasaki Disease have been so fortunate.
I will be running for research into this insidious disease so that we can find answers and a cure.

Kawasaki Disease is a serious illness primarily affecting young children. It is the leading cause of acquired heart disease in children. Children may develop serious complications affecting the coronary arteries and aneurysms may develop. These are potentially the most serious complication and may lead to long term problems and can be fatal. The number of children affected is growing each year.
Kawasaki Disease Foundation Australia is a non-profit, national, all volunteer, parent-led charity dedicated to advancing Kawasaki Disease issues.
We provide education, information and support to families affected by Kawasaki Disease as well as assisting professionals who provide services to families affected by Kawasaki Disease.
We also raise funds for and participate in research studies into this mysterious disease.
The Foundation strives to educate the wider community about Kawasaki Disease in order to assist with early diagnosis and treatment.
